Remember

Remember

Do you fear the bumps deep in the night
When you sleep in my neighborhood?
Is the glow from the moon all but dimmed
From the window in my room where you stood?

Do you, on your pedestal, mighty and tall
Look down upon me and the rest
Who sheltered from the cold night air
And offered your first sweet caress?

Do you forget from whence you came
From whom your loins were born
Falter not and don’t look back
But what when comes the storm?

Remember when your back is turned
And your eyes will not meet mine
Remember that I remember much more
And won’t be burned a second time.

I love this poem, who were you talking about? was it a child or was it you? wonderfully written. I think any poem that doesnt tell me it intrigues me to know what they meant, but most times you cant speak to the author.

Thank you for your kind words. It does stem from personal experience...and a sense of sadness for the person it is about...It is about growing up and moving on...only in different directions and the pain that comes from realizing that some people are ashamed of where they began even though they are who they are because of their roots. Some people aren't even tolerant of who they are.

What style did you use? I saw that in each quatrain your second and fourth line rhymed leaving out the first and fourth. It intrigued me I am into styles, I need the structure lol.

It is the old standby quatrain with the rhyme at the end of the second and fourth line of each stanze...like all great junior high love poems : )
